Michigan Online Poker Climbs in the Ladder: Overtakes NJ

Trusted Online Casinos » Michigan Online Poker Climbs in the Ladder: Overtakes NJ

This is a major development, and, likely, Pennsylvania will soon be looking over its shoulder as well. With so much money on the line, it will be interesting to see how this battle plays out.

Mitten State Overtaking the Garden State

When it comes to online poker markets, Michigan is quickly making its way up the ladder. In fact, for the past four consecutive months, Michigan has generated a larger poker earnings total than New Jersey

This is an impressive feat, especially considering that NJ is one of the most established online poker markets in the US.

Revenue for the Month (in millions)
AprilMayJune
Michigan$2.7$2.5$2.4
New Jersey$2.29$2.3$2.2

Additionally, Mitten State is coming closer and closer to Pennsylvania – another state with a thriving online poker scene. The Keystone State generated $2.8 million and $2.6 million in May and June, respectively.

This shows that the gap is slowly getting thinner and if this fast-growing MI online poker market continues, it may claim the largest online poker market this coming September.

More About the Expected Decline Last June

The Michigan Gambling Control Board has just released its monthly report on online gambling revenues, and it just confirms the expected decline for online poker last June.

For instance, BetMGM MI saw a $4.1% slight decline in overall revenues from May to June, totaling just over $47 million. However, PokerStars MI saw a more significant decline of 3.8 percent, bringing in just under $4 million for the month.

Meanwhile, WSOP MI experienced a 9% drop compared to the May reports, totaling just over $6 million for June.

Using the estimates provided by GameItntel, BetMGM MI has made around $581,000 for June, 9.4% lower compared to May. WSOP MI slow down as it generated around $510,000 in June compared to the $642,000 earnings in May.

Surprisingly, PokerStars MI made around $1.3 million in June which shows a 6% month-over-month increase.

It will be interesting to see if these trends continue in the coming months or if they are simply a blip on the radar. Either way, Michigan is becoming a major player in the world of online gambling.
